Anyone who has watched His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj closely knows this about him: when someone else does something good, he will find some way to appreciate them. Whether requesting sadhus to perform sashtang dandvats, or reverently touching the dust of the Nagar where volunteers have served, his humility leaves all who witness it in quiet awe.
A recent incident in Sarangpur offered yet another glimpse of this.
When Swamishri was shown the many accolades and honours received by the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan, he immediately reached down to touch the feet of Mahamahopadhyay Bhadreshdas Swami. When Bhadreshdas Swami would not allow it, Swamishri took his hands and tried to place them upon his own head - and again, Bhadreshdas Swami gently resisted. Later, as Bhadreshdas Swami turned to face the assembly, Swamishri quietly bowed down and tried to touch his feet again.
The entire assembly was moved. It is one thing to hear about humility. It is another to sit there and watch it.
જેમણે પરમ પૂજ્ય મહંત સ્વામી મહારાજને નજીકથી નિહાળ્યા છે તેઓ આ વાત જાણે છે: જ્યારે કોઈ કંઈક સારું કરે, ત્યારે સ્વામીશ્રી તેની કદર કરવાનો કોઈક ને કોઈક માર્ગ શોધી જ લે છે. ક્યારેક સંતોને સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત્ કરવાની વિનંતી કરે, તો ક્યારેક જ્યાં સ્વયંસેવકોએ સેવા કરી હોય તે નગરની રજને ભાવપૂર્વક સ્પર્શે. તેમની આ નમ્રતા જોનાર સૌ કોઈ સ્તબ્ધ થઈ જાય છે.
સારંગપુરમાં તાજેતરમાં બનેલો પ્રસંગ આનું વધુ એક દર્શન કરાવે છે.
અક્ષર-પુરુષોત્તમ દર્શનને પ્રાપ્ત થયેલાં અનેક સન્માનો અને પુરસ્કારો જ્યારે સ્વામીશ્રીને બતાવવામાં આવ્યાં, ત્યારે તેઓ તરત જ મહામહોપાધ્યાય ભદ્રેશદાસ સ્વામીનાં ચરણ સ્પર્શવા નીચે નમ્યા. ભદ્રેશદાસ સ્વામીએ તેમ કરવા ન દીધું, એટલે સ્વામીશ્રીએ તેમના હાથ પકડીને પોતાના મસ્તક પર મૂકવાનો પ્રયાસ કર્યો - ત્યારે પણ ભદ્રેશદાસ સ્વામીએ સંકોચ સાથે અટકાવ્યા. થોડી વાર પછી, જ્યારે ભદ્રેશદાસ સ્વામી સભા તરફ મુખ કરીને ઊભા હતા, ત્યારે સ્વામીશ્રી શાંતિથી નમીને ફરી તેમનાં ચરણ સ્પર્શવા ગયા.
સમગ્ર સભા ભાવવિભોર થઈ ગઈ. નમ્રતા વિશે સાંભળવું એ એક વાત છે; ત્યાં બેસીને તેને નજરોનજર નિહાળવી એ સાવ જુદી જ વાત છે.
