Discussion Points:

  1. Yesterday was Ekadashi - what did you do to fast? What did you eat? What did you avoid? How did you find it? Was it easy to fast or difficult?
  2. Why do you think Ghanshyam wanted to teach the bawa the truth about Ekadashi?
  3. What do you think is the purpose of fasting or observing special days like Ekadashi?
  4. Why do you think some people might choose not to observe traditions or follow beliefs like fasting?
  5. How do you feel about Ghanshyam’s response when the bawa gave his explanation about not fasting?
  6. What can we learn from Ghanshyam’s calm but firm way of correcting the bawa?
  7. Why do you think the bawa changed his mind about fasting after his experience?
  8. What do you think it means when someone says actions like fasting are done “wholeheartedly”?
  9. How do you feel when you see someone stand up for what they believe is right?
  10. Why do you think the people in the mandir decided to start fasting on Ekadashi after seeing what happened?
  11. What lesson do you think this story is teaching about the importance of faith and following scriptures?

Activity: "Teach the Truth" Drama Game

Objective:

To help participants understand the importance of standing up for the truth, promoting positive values, and encouraging thoughtful discussions in a fun and interactive way.

Materials Needed:

  • None, or optional props like scarves for costumes if the family wants to get creative.

Setup and Rules:

  1. Assign Roles:
    1. Divide the family into characters from the story (e.g., the bawa, temple attendees, Yam’s servants).
    2. If there are fewer participants, some can play multiple roles, or others can narrate parts of the story.
  2. Reenact the Story:
    1. Act out the key scenes from the story, including:
      1. The bawa explaining his views about Ekadashi.
      2. Ghanshyam standing up for the truth.
      3. The bawa’s experience in Yampuri.
      4. The bawa’s transformation and apology.
  3. Add a Fun Twist:
    1. After acting out the story as written, encourage the family to make up their own endings or change the dialogue to reflect how they would react in the situation.
    2. For example, how would Ghanshyam explain the importance of Ekadashi today?
  4. Reflection and Discussion: After the drama, sit together and discuss:
    1. What did you learn from the story?
    2. How can we stand up for what we believe in while being kind and respectful?
    3. Why is it important to guide others with truth instead of misleading them?
  5. Creative Add-On (Optional):
    1. Write a “pledge” as a family about standing up for the truth or practicing values that are meaningful to you.
    2. Display it somewhere visible to remind everyone of the lesson.
