Pramukh Parva - Day 4
As we celebrate our beloved Guruhari Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s birthday celebrations this week, let us look closely at one particular prasang below! Think about what you’ve done this week to celebrate Bapa’s birthday! How have you been a part of these celebrations?
Stuti: [(Shrimad Sadgun Shālinam…), Jaynād (1 min)]
Kirtan: [Lago chho pyaara - Anirdesh Kirtan Muktavali (3 mins)]
Gun Grahan: [Write down 3 qualities of people you have met, seen, or heard about this week, and share these with your family.]
Prasang Reading (3 mins):
On 30 April 2006, Dr Prashant Chhaya, an orthopaedic surgeon, came to Junagadh for Swamishri’s darshan. He revealed, “I can barely manage the five employees in my clinic. How do you manage this gigantic Sanstha?” “God manages everything,” Swamishri replied in one sentence. Dr Chhaya was persistent, “I understand that, but he works through you. How do you manage them?” “God is the all-doer. If you believe in that divine concept, you can inspire everyone. God works through all of us. If we understand everyone’s greatness, cooperate with them and work to please God, everything falls into place.”
Discussion Points:
Group 1: (6-9yrs)
- What advice did Pramukh Swami Maharaj give Dr Chhaya?
- Who manages the gigantic BAPS Sanstha?
- How does God work through a person?
- What should we do to ensure God works through us?
- Do you believe that working together with others is important? Why or why not?
- Swamishri says we should try to understand everyone's greatness. Is that to do Gun Grahan, what do you think that means? How can you practice this every day?
- Swamishri says we should cooperate with everyone. Is that to have samp, what do you think that means? How can you practice this every day?
- Swamishri says we should work to please God. Is that Raajipa no Vichaar, what do you think that means? How can you practice this every day?
Group 2: (10-13yrs)
- Why do you think Dr. Chhaya was impressed by Swamishri’s ability to manage so many people?
- What does Swamishri mean when he says, “God works through all of us”? Do you think people can work together better when they believe in a higher purpose?
- Swamishri emphasises understanding everyone's greatness. Why do you think it's important to see the good in others?
- Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to cooperate with others to succeed? How did that feel, and what did you learn from it?
- Do you think it’s possible to be a good leader if you don’t listen to or respect the people you’re leading? Why or why not?
- Swamishri talks about working to please God. How does having a goal like this motivate you to do your best work?
- In your life, do you feel more inspired when you work with others or alone? Why do you think that is?
- How do you think the belief that “God is the all-doer” might help someone stay calm in challenging situations?
Activity: Helium Stick/Hoop
Objective:
The goal is to lower the hula hoop to the ground using only your fingers.
Materials Needed:
- A hula hoop or a long stick (like the handle of a broom)
Setup and Rules:
- Form groups of a few people.
- Stand in a circle/ line (depending on your object)
- Then point out your index fingers and hold their arms out.
- Gently place a hula hoop/ stick on all members in the group’s index fingers and keep the hula hoop level. (Some people may have to raise or lower their fingers to get it level.)
- The goal is to lower the hula hoop to the ground using only your fingers. You cannot take your fingers off of the hula hoop/ stick or hook your fingers around it.
- If anyone in the group let’s go of the hula hoop/ stick, you must start over.
- Each person’s fingers must be in contact with the hula hoop/ stick at all times.
Purpose of the Activity:
This activity gets its name because the hula hoop, while resting on group members’ fingers, appears to float/move upward because the collective weight of everyone’s fingers holding it up is much more than that of the hula hoop. Often, the more the group members try to hold it level and get in sync, the more it appears to move upward. The moral of this activity is that even though we are trying so hard to lower the hula hoop/ stick we are not achieving the goal, in fact it is doing the exact opposite. In the same way we should accept that no matter how hard we try, Bhagwan and the Satpurush know what is best for us and will ensure that is what happens.
